Supported Education for Consumers of Mental Health Services

What is “supported education,” and what role can it play for consumers of mental health services?

Supported education is a relatively new term in the mental health context, but the need is real and the idea is simple. Many individuals with mental illness have had their education disrupted, or faced difficulties in achieving their academic goals. Supported education is a systematic approach that connects individuals with the accommodations they need to succeed, and gain both the sense of personal fulfillment and professional opportunities that come with educational success.

To help introduce the topic of supported education, which is one of the CAFÉ TA Center’s two areas of concentration, we have just published a new paper: Supported Education for Consumers of Mental Health Services. It provides some basic information about what supported education is, how it works and what it can do for consumers. It’s available online now at the CAFÉ TA Center website. Just follow this link.
