Maine Equal Justice wanted to provide you a few updates about the MaineCare Citizenship and Identity Verification Requirement. 

1.  Termination of MaineCare.  DHHS has begun terminating MaineCare for recipients who do not have good cause for failing to provide the appropriate documentation to prove their citizenship and identity within 90 days of their review date.  As of April 11th, approximately 2,000 people had lost their MaineCare eligibility.  It is critical that applicants and recipients continue to receive help with meeting the citizenship and identity requirement.

2.  New Hotline Number.   MaineCare recipients and applicants can call the Consumers for Affordable Health Care hotline at 1-800-965-7476 with questions about documenting citizenship and identity.  The hotline will not be able to help with funds to purchase necessary documents.  The DHHS Hotline closed on March 28th. 

3.  Statewide Outreach Events.  Edwina Drucker from Maine Primary Care Association and Scott Metzger from Amistad are holding outreach events this spring to work one-on-one with MaineCare recipients and applicants to help them prove citizenship and identity.   Attached is information about upcoming outreach events.
