Individuals bring their medical and behavioral health problems with them to both medical care and specialty behavioral healthcare. Efforts to promote primary and behavioral healthcare integration (PBHCI) are taking hold across the country. What is integration and what does it exactly mean for access to mental and substance use services?
This webinar is an essential primer for staff, consumers, and others who need to hear how primary and behavioral healthcare integration is becoming a vital part of the behavioral health system of care. Register and invite others to join us for this special event co-hosted by the National Council and Mental Health America.

Peer Support and Peer Providers: Redefining Mental Health Recovery
Peer support is a relationship and dialogue based on connection and trust. When we create this kind of relational environment, we can step back and see things from new angles, creating possibilities that couldn’t have previously existed. —Shery Mead, Peer Support Consultant
What is unique about peer support services and what can mental health providers, family members, and other stakeholders learn from the success of this approach? What systems-level and policy changes are need to enhance the culture of healing and recovery in mental health services, based on mutual relationships of learning, safety, and trust? What are the research findings that have shown peer support to be an evidence-based practice that enhances well-being outcomes?
SAMHSA ADS Center invites you to a free training teleconference entitled “Peer Support and Peer Providers: Redefining Mental Health Recovery”. This training teleconference will help current and past recipients of mental health services, U.S. service members and their families, health providers, advocacy organizations, family and peer support leaders, and the general public explore the questions above.

NATIONAL TAKE-BACK INITIATIVE |
|
Monday, 30 August 2010 11:50 |
Saturday, September 25, 2010
On September 25, 2010, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. Collection activities will take place from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. at sites established throughout the country. The National Take-Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction. These drugs are a potential source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.
This one-day effort is intended to bring national focus to the issue of increasing pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse.
- The program is anonymous.
- Prescription and over the counter solid dosage medications, i.e. tablets and capsules accepted.
- Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and needles will not be accepted.
- Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative.
Find collection site(s) near you Please check back often as new collection sites will be added daily. |

MaineCare Listening Sessions |

Do You Have MaineCare?
Let your voice be heard!
Come to a Listening Session about MaineCare!
Tell researchers what you think about MaineCare and how you get your health care!
We are looking for people who have MaineCare to come talk about MaineCare and their health care with researchers from the University of Southern Maine. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is changing the way it pays hospitals and physicians in order to improve the quality of services and the way services are delivered to MaineCare members. So the purpose of this group is to hear directly from you about your experiences with MaineCare and your ideas for improving it. These Listening Sessions are a chance for you to let DHHS know about what you like and dislike about MaineCare and how it can work better for you.
The names of people who go to the Listening Sessions will be kept confidential. The researchers will summarize what is said in a report that will be shared with people in DHHS and others who are trying to improve the MaineCare program. This is a great opportunity to help improve the MaineCare program.
Participants will receive a $30 gift certificate to Hannaford’s, travel reimbursement (44 cents per mile) and child care reimbursement, if needed.
